SPANISH TEACHER (.5 FTE)
Position
Purpose:
The Spanish Teacher is responsible for teaching world language skills to secondary students which focus on interpersonal, presentational and interpretive modes of communication. This role involves creating lesson plans that align with district goals and state standards, while providing instruction which fosters a positive classroom environment. The teacher will also promote understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures while incorporating technology to support learning.
Additionally, the teacher will work with parents and staff to support student progress, address individual needs, and participate in professional development to continuously improve teaching practices. This position reports to the MS/HS principal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Teaching Certificate from Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
Bachelor and/or Masters Degree in Education/Foreign Language
Preference given to teachers with experience
Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable
Demonstrates proficiency in the WI Teaching Standards, district teaching expectations and delivery of the WI content standards for Foreign Language
Essential Functions:
Teaches world language skills and knowledge to secondary students,aligned with standards adopted by the school board and incorporating appropriate learning activities. Spanish instructors teach aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Develops lesson plans and supplemental materials aligned with the district's instructional philosophy.
Teaches students the safe operation of electronic equipment used in language instruction, making minor adjustments and requesting repairs when necessary.
Establishes and maintains clear standards of student behavior to ensure an orderly and productive classroom environment.
Fosters an understanding and appreciation of the culture of countries where the Spanish language is spoken.
Selects and orders instructional books, aids, and supplies as needed.
Communicates with parents to explain contemporary methods in foreign language instruction and discusses individual student progress in collaboration with parents and school counselors.
Identifies student needs and works with other professional staff members to assess and address health, attitude, and learning challenges.
Supervises students during out-of-classroom activities as part of the assigned workday.
Participates in curriculum development and other educational programs within the district.
Promotes understanding of the political and economic systems of Spanish-speaking countries and their impact on personal freedom, education, and living standards.
Maintains professional competence by participating in in-service education activities provided by the district, as well as engaging in self-directed professional growth.
