A robotic welding programmer programs, sets up, tests, and maintains robotic welding systems to produce high-quality, efficient welds by creating and optimising weld paths and parameters. Responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, adjusting robot movements, troubleshooting issues, performing preventative maintenance, and collaborating with production and engineering teams to ensure consistent manufacturing processes and quality controls.
Major Responsibilities- Create and manage weld programs for robotic systems, often using teach pendants to define weld paths and movements.
- Configure and calibrate robotic welding cells, including fixturing, to prepare for production.
- Evaluate existing programs and implement changes to improve cycle times, weld quality, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
- Perform test runs and quality checks on completed welds to ensure they meet required standards and specifications.
- Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on robotic welding equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Identify and resolve technical issues and malfunctions in robotic systems to minimize downtime.
- Keep detailed records of welding cycles and machine performance.
- Work closely with engineers, welders, and other production staff to refine processes and address manufacturing challenges.
Job Requirements
- Education:
Bachelor's degree or job-related experience. - Certification/License: 6 Axis Industrial Robot Programming – Minimum 2 years.

- Fanuc experience – Minimum 2 years.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Automated Systems/Controls Engineering or Equivalent Technical Degree or 5 years’ experience in an engineering field. - Safety Systems Experience to include safety PLC integration (PILZ, Allen Bradley), light curtain and safety scanners.
- Industrial / Equipment Systems Integration to include motion and servo control.
- Experience with Robot to PLC Interface – Omron and Siemens preferred.
- General experience with electrical schematics, pneumatic circuits, and risk assessment.
- Off‑Line Robotic Simulation Experience – preferred.
- Yaskawa – preferred.
- Automotive factory experience – desired.
- Blueprint interpretation:
Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications. - Welding knowledge:
Understanding of various welding processes, weld schedules and parameters. Knowledge with AWS D1.1 and D1.3 specifications preferred. - Robot programming:
Proficiency with the programming interfaces and languages of different robot manufacturers. - Technical skills:
Aptitude for hands‑on technical work, calibration, and basic repair. - Problem‑solving:
Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues. - Communication:
Effective teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and vendors.
