Job Overview

SHINE Technologies seeks a Senior Radiation Protection Specialist to implement activities related to radiation protection (RP) programs and facilities to control on-site personnel doses ALARA and limit public exposure to radiation and contamination. Base salary range: $85,000 - $115,000 per year plus comprehensive compensation package.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Radiation Protection Manager and Radiation Safety Officer to establish and implement radiation protection department policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Design and implement process and design changes that improve radiological safety.
  • Develop NRC and State of WI license applications and amendments.
  • Develop sound radiological practices around research and development work.
  • Maintain radiation detection instrumentation and associated equipment.
  • Maintain dosimetry program (internal/external).
  • Estimate and track individual and collective dose.
  • Perform shielding calculations.
  • Analyze and interpret survey results and recommend appropriate radiation protection controls and actions.
  • Provide briefings and guidance to facility personnel to prevent unplanned exposures and maintain exposures ALARA.
  • Write Radiation Work Permits and Work Instructions.
  • Mentor Radiation Protection Technicians and Authorized Users in good Health Physics practices.
  • Monitor radiological safety and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Perform radiation and contamination surveys and decontamination work.
  • Perform sampling and analysis of gases, liquids, and solids.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in health physics, engineering technology, or related physical science specialty; or High School Diploma with ANSI RP technician qualifications and experience at a nuclear power facility; or Navy Nuclear experience, including Engineering Lab Technician (ELT).
  • Certified Health Physics (CHP) or National Registry Of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) preferred.
  • Experience working with Tritium preferred.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in applied radiation protection or related field for Senior RPS.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in applied radiation protection or related field for Mid Career RPS.
  • Technical understanding of nuclear facility principles and operation.
  • Familiarity with federal regulatory requirements for radiation protection.
  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
