The EHS (Environmental Health Safety) Specialist is responsible for supporting the EHS Manager and driving EHS excellence at the site level. The role focuses on leading EHS and Risk Management compliance, supporting the implementation of EHS & RM programs, and maintaining a safe working culture aligned with Corporate EHS & RM.
Key duties include:
Responsibilities- Supporting site leadership and employees in achieving zero health and safety incidents annually.
- Ensuring accurate and timely submission of site regulatory and internal reporting.
- Monitoring site EHS metrics and addressing undesirable trends proactively.
- Ensuring compliance with multidisciplinary groups and EHS programs in accordance with federal, provincial, state, local regulations and internal standards to drive continual improvement.
- Assisting with safety related regulatory compliance issues and updating company and divisional safety policies/standards.
- Preparing and maintaining mandatory regulatory safety and environmental reports/records through the EHS & RM Data Management System.
- Maintaining the Plant SDS Program using Site‑Hawk or any designated program.
- Updating and maintaining PPE records.
- Supporting Workers’ Compensation loss control programs and related reporting requirements.
- Maintaining Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) instructions for all equipment via the designated program.
- Updating and revising Plant Safety Programs when necessary.
- Accompanying injured employees to medical provider visits to ensure timely care.
- Participating in Safety and Environmental Divisional Meetings.
- Acting as a resource to the EHS Manager concerning on‑site injuries and illnesses.
- Co‑coordinating the Plant Safety Committee.
- Supporting Environmental, Health and Safety policies and practices.
- Leading safety and environmental issues in absence of the EHS Manager.
- Updating and auditing LOTO procedures on all equipment annually.
- Ensuring all First Aid supplies are stocked adequately.
- Becoming a First Responder Certified every two years.
- Ensuring all AEDs are tested and compliant monthly.
- Providing safety portion of new hire orientation.
Important Details:
This is a full‑time role located onsite at our Manawa, WI plant. The role will report to the site EHS Manager.
- Associate degree in a Scientific, Engineering, or Technical discipline.
- Three or more years of relevant experience.
- Subject matter expertise familiar with OSHA/EPA regulations.
- Knowledge of OSHA’s Process Safety Management and/or EPA’s Risk Management Plan Standards.
- Technical EHS skills: behaviour‑based principles, engineering, hazard recognition, risk assessment, and worker compensation administration.
- Excellent problem‑solving, verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong personal accountability for high‑quality work with a continuous‑improvement mindset.
- Leadership and auditing experience.
- General understanding of production processes, equipment, and systems found in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with environmental management information systems (e.g., Intelex, Site Hawk, ISN, or Alchemy) is preferred.
