We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified engineer in our design group. This position offers an excellent opportunity for upward mobility within a growing firm.
DescriptionDesign Engineering (Primary Focus)
- Develop roadway, highway, and bridge plan sets in compliance with WisDOT Facilities Development Manual (FDM) and standards.
- Use Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Micro Station to prepare horizontal/vertical alignments, cross sections, grading plans, utility coordination, and details.
- Perform engineering calculations such as geometric design, drainage analysis, traffic staging layouts, and quantity take‑offs.
- Coordinate with survey and environmental teams to integrate field data and regulatory requirements into design deliverables.
Construction Support (Secondary Focus)
- Provide occasional field reviews and assist with plan revisions during construction.
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), contractor submittals, and plan interpretation needs.
- Ensure design intent is properly communicated to WisDOT field staff and contractors.
Project & Team Support
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and technicians on multidisciplinary WisDOT projects.
- Communicate effectively with WisDOT project managers, municipalities, and other agencies.
- Manage multiple design deadlines while ensuring high‑quality deliverables.
- Minimum of a four‑year technical degree in a civil engineering related field.
- Strong knowledge of transportation engineering design principles.
- Familiarity with WisDOT FDM, Standard Specifications, and CAD standards (preferred).
- Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D for roadway plan development.
- Experience preparing WisDOT plan sheets, cost estimates, and supporting documentation (preferred).
- Ability to coordinate across disciplines and manage design tasks on multiple projects.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and record‑keeping skills.
- Computer literacy, including use of relevant communication and file organization software.
- Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with team members & clients.
- Ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented environment.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Authorization to work in the United States for any employer. We will not provide sponsorship for this position.
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Use of a keyboard.
