POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Safety and Environmental Manager provides critical support to multiple site Plant Managers by leading the implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of safety and environmental (S&E) programs at the site level. This position ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations while promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the facility. The role performs a wide range of administrative and operational duties, including report preparation, data analysis, investigations, and problem-solving, while collaborating with all departments to drive accountability and maintain alignment with company standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the plant manager in fostering a culture of safety by aligning organizational design elements with core safety principles.
  • Coordinate all managers and Supervisors in the Behavior Observation System (Safety, GMPs, and Confidentiality), responsible for creating a culture of safety by keeping the Safety principles alive.
  • Oversee and coordinate any investigations of incidents/accidents and follow up with corrective action.
  • Lead the identification and analysis of Root cases related to unsafe behaviors and organizational safety issues; recommend and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Serve as the site’s subject matter expert (SME) on safety policies, supporting investigations and disciplinary processes to ensure fair and consistent application.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain workplace health and safety plans, policies, and procedures in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and facilitate monthly safety committee meetings, including scheduling, agenda development, meeting facilitation, and maintaining official minutes.
  • Evaluate site safety practices through regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections, ensuring alignment with legal guidelines and company standards, including but not limited to LOTO.
  • Oversee workers’ compensation claims, acting as the primary contact for case management, reporting, and return-to-work coordination.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the production floor by regularly inspecting operations and verifying employee adherence to safe work practices.
  • Ensure Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) are properly documented, reviewed, and updated as required.
  • Conduct and document new hire safety orientation, ensuring all new employees are trained on key safety policies and emergency procedures.
  • Deliver safety training sessions, including OSHA-mandated annual trainings, and maintain accurate training records for all employees.
  • Support and co-lead annual emergency preparedness activities, including severe weather and fire drills.
  • Oversee vendor and visitor security protocols for the plant, ensuring compliance with site safety and confidentiality standards.
  • Manage the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) program, ensuring timely updates and accessibility for all employees.
  • Track and report key safety performance indicators, including incident rates, lost time, and near-misses; maintain accurate records of incident days, including the OSHA 300 Log.
  • Monitor, track, and replace biohazard and sharps containers as needed to ensure ongoing compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Maintain and support site first responders, including managing first aid kits and ensuring they are adequately stocked and accessible.
  • Develop and enhance employee engagement through safety incentive programs; monitor effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Provide safety presentations and training in large group settings with clear communication and professional delivery.
  • Offer subject matter expertise and potential solutions to leadership teams on safety-related challenges and improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the site’s safety, health, and environmental compliance objectives.
  • Assist in the development and execution of sustainability initiatives aligned with company goals (e.g., waste reduction, energy efficiency, carbon footprint reduction).
