Job Description Advanced EMT - JOB SUMMARYThe Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) provides pre-hospital 911 emergency care and transport of sick and injured patients by ambulance as needed.
Job Qualifications EducationFor positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum
Required:
Graduate of an Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) training program. A Physician, Physician Assistant or Registered Nurse may be considered if candidate holds a license supported by Department of Health Services Physician, Physician Assistant, and Registered Nurse Equivalency Application.

ExperienceMinimum
Required:
Demonstrated proficiency with administering complex treatment, maintaining composure under pressure, and communicating to individuals in stressful situations. Proficient with reading, writing and speaking English.
Preferred/Optional: Proficient with reading, writing and speaking in alternate languages.
Certifications/LicensesMinimum
Required:
- Current licensure by the State of Wisconsin as an AEMT
- License supported by Department of Health Services:
Physician, Physician Assistant, Registered Nurse or Paramedic and Equivalency Application within three months of hire - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as verified through appropriate licensing agency. Must meet the driving requirements and criteria acceptable to MCHS's insurer
- Emergency Vehicle Operations Certification (EVOC), Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO), or Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVDT) within two years of hire
Preferred/Optional:
- Current licensure by National Registry as AEMT at the time of hire
- Emergency Vehicle Operations Certification (EVOC), Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO), or Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVDT) at the time of hire
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) assumes responsibility for individual professional actions and judgments, during both independent and dependent emergency functions. The EMT functions independently while applying the usual skills of the certified EMT in an ambulance setting. Advanced EMT skills in the ambulance setting are under the direction of a physician.
