Position: Coding Educator - Talent Advancement Programs
Location: Allenton

Overview

Coding Educator - Talent Advancement Programs role at Aurora Health Care. This position involves leading coding education initiatives, developing and delivering training for coders and clinicians, and collaborating with Coding Leadership, IT leadership, Org development, Revenue Cycle leadership, and Compliance leadership to enhance educational offerings.

Base pay range

$30.15/hr - $45.25/hr

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Coding Leadership, IT leadership, Org development, Revenue Cycle leadership, Compliance leadership and other stakeholders to plan and deliver coding education.
  • Presents coding and documentation education for initial training and continuing education for coders and clinicians; supports development of educational presentations, tools and documents.
  • Identify, trend and report coder educational needs; collaborate with Professional Coding department leadership to enhance programs and provide one-on-one, follow-up and refresher sessions.
  • Stay current with adult learning concepts; maintain education/training schedules; schedule presentations via Learning Connection, ATMS, Skype or Teams; communicate offerings in a standardized fashion.
  • Develop and maintain web-based coding education programs; assign lessons, report results, track progress and identify further education needs; evaluate and adapt offerings; define learning objectives and delivery options (classroom, e-learning, virtual, desk-side, etc.).
  • Create educational programs with objectives; support e-learning and technology-based learning initiatives; ensure content is accurate, complete and documented to standards.
  • Produce learner manuals and facilitator guides; provide comprehensive train-the-trainer sessions for trainers (Coding Supervisors and Coding Leads) and deliver updates as needed.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
  • Coding Associate (CCA) or Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P) or Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Health Information Technician (RHIT) registrations with AHIMA, or
  • Professional Coder (CPC) with AAPC, or Specialty Coding Professional (SCP) with BMSC, or CPC-I with AAPC, or Specialty Medical Coding Certification with AAPC.
Education Required
  • Advanced training beyond high school that includes completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Coding Specialist.
Experience Required
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in medical coding including experiences in physician revenue cycle processes and health information workflows.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines; advanced medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning concepts; ability to plan, coordinate and facilitate coding educational programs.
  • Proficiency in combining adult learning principles with online and in-person teaching methods.
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office, email, calendars); excellent organizational, verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to speak effectively to small/large groups; build relationships; coordinate multiple tasks; work independently and exercise judgment.
  • Ability to work in multiple environments (virtual, office, clinic/hospital); functional speech, hearing and sensory abilities; ability to concentrate; may require travel.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Generally exposed to a normal office environment; travel may be required; may be exposed to road and weather hazards; operates all necessary equipment.
