JOB SUMMARY

The Central Service Technician is responsible for supporting patient care by performing critical functions in the supply, collection, and distribution processes across various departments. This role plays an essential part in ensuring the quality and safety of surgical and procedural services by following strict quality assurance standards. The Technician is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, inspection, maintenance, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical supplies.

This position requires attention to detail, adherence to infection control protocols, and a strong commitment to efficiency and accuracy in all aspects of sterile processing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Cleans and processes surgical instruments and medical equipment in accordance with departmental protocols, guidelines, and regulatory standards.
  • Handles and transports contaminated instruments and equipment from various departments following established safety procedures and infection control policies.
  • Maintains accurate sterilization records to ensure compliance with departmental policies and industry standards.
  • Distributes sterilized instruments and supplies to designated departments to ensure availability and readiness for patient care.
  • Identifies and applies appropriate decontamination and sterilization methods for specialized instruments and equipment to maintain safety and functionality.
  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts by developing procedures and enhancing organizational systems within the Central Service area.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves equipment malfunctions to restore proper function and maintain operational standards.
  • Ensures department equipment remains in optimal condition through regular daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance routines.
  • Maintains strict adherence to scheduled work hours with regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Preferred enrollment in, current attendance, or completion of an accredited HSPA or CBSPD sterile processing technician program.
  • Preferred central service experience involving sterilization of medical equipment.
  • CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR), per FHC guidelines.
  • Preferred Central Service Technician certification from one of the following:
    Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), or Military equivalency.
