Critical Care Registered Nurse - Kerville, TX

Contract Contingent position located at Kerrville VA Medical Center, 3600 Memorial Blvd., Kerrville, TX 78028. This engagement supports The Veterans Integrated Services Network 17 (VISN 17) and expanded operations to restore healthcare services post-pandemic.

The Veterans Integrated Services Network 17 (VISN 17) comprises seven healthcare systems in Texas and requires additional staffing over the next 24 months to support expanded beds and mission readiness.

• Assess the physiological and psychological health status of patients.
• Formulate and implement a nursing plan of care based on patient health data.
• Coordinate patient care needs with team members and other disciplines; plan and execute nursing actions to achieve patient goals.
• Administer drugs and solutions as prescribed (competent with drug administrations and titrations per ACLS protocol).
• Physiologically monitor patients throughout their stay and adhere to universal protocol.
• Perform nursing actions with accountability and participate in patient and family teaching.
• Document nursing care timely and accurately; perform skills in Critical Care settings.
• Collect lab specimens (including blood cultures) per hospital policy; insert peripheral IV access aseptically; perform 12-lead EKGs.
• Operate equipment such as bladder scanners, mechanical ventilators, IV infusion pumps, defibrillators, crash carts, central monitoring, and transport monitors.
• Maintain ER performance measures, including EKGs, Troponin, Pneumonia Protocol, and turn-around times; provide care for medically/surgically unstable patients.
• Additional duties may be assigned; training will be provided if needed.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a program accredited by ACEN or CCNE.

Licensure: Registered Nurse with a current Texas State license, BLS, and ACLS certifications.

Experience: Ability to assess health status and develop/coordinate a nursing plan of care with multidisciplinary teams; effective medication administration and patient monitoring.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) and familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, data analytics tools, and Visio; ability to quickly learn additional tools.
