Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
-1.0 FTE - Mt Pleasant
This role is offered by Aurora Health Care. The pay range is $57.85/hr - $86.80/hr, based on skills and experience.
Responsibilities- Provide complex care coordination and advanced care (e.g., complex monitoring, therapies, high‑intensity medical and surgical interventions) to patients with complex, acute, critical and chronic health conditions.
- Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage acute and critical patients within an inpatient hospital setting for the majority of work shifts.
- Serve as the primary patient and physician contact, facilitating access to specialty teams and ensuring continuity of care across settings.
- Provide clinical direction to nursing staff regarding continued patient care, following up to ensure recommended care is delivered.
- Prescribe, recommend, and regulate pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic therapies, including controlled medications, across multiple care settings.
- Manage a variety of ancillary services, pre‑operative plans, discharge planning, and provider referrals.
- Order, perform, and interpret procedures and diagnostic tests or studies within the scope of clinical specialty trained by a supervising physician, e.g., injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, bone marrow aspirations, biopsies, spinal taps, thoracentesis, and paracentesis.
- Counsel, instruct, and educate patients on physical and mental health, including diet, preventive measures, health behaviors, self‑care skills, disease management, treatment options, and normal development.
- Interpret and evaluate patient data as authorized by a physician to determine management and treatment plans, consulting with physicians as appropriate.
- Adjust patient care plans by reviewing and monitoring treatments and therapy plans.
- Prepare, dictate, and sign patient care plans and summaries of patient care; maintain records according to established standards and guidelines.
12‑hour shifts; PM shift weekends.
Licenses & Certifications- Physician Assistant license issued by the state in which you practice.
- Physician Assistant (PA‑C) certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which you practice;
Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber license issued by the state of Wisconsin. - Nurse Practitioner (ANCC) certification issued by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or Nurse Practitioner (AANP) certification issued by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association (AHA); may be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Bachelor's Degree in Physician Assistant.
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
Preferred experience in urgent care or emergency medicine.
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesDemonstrated high level of clinical proficiency, excellent decision‑making skills, ability to work independently and as an effective team member, excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to collaborate and build relationships with others, proven organizational skills and prioritization ability.
