Introduction

Position Summary

Fisheries Technician Advanced-Management (General/Survey). This position is responsible for a broad range of technical and paraprofessional support for the fisheries management program. Work duties include leading LTE crews, implementation of high‑priority fisheries surveys, fisheries habitat restoration and maintenance, entering and analyzing fisheries data, and preparing written summaries and reports.

Responsibilities
  • 35% – Lead local LTE fisheries crews in assigned management area. Deploy, operate, and retrieve fisheries sampling gear such as electrofishing gear, fyke nets, and gill nets in lakes, rivers, and streams. Follow standard protocols for fisheries management surveys as well as data entry and analysis.
  • 20% – Lead local LTE crews as part of a habitat field crew conducting stream, river, and lake habitat restoration and maintenance projects, including plan development, site assessment, stakeholder outreach, and construction and installation of in‑stream habitat devices and other restoration techniques such as bank stabilization, riparian vegetation management, fish passage projects, fish sticks, tree drops, etc.
  • 20% – Process fish age structures for determination of growth and assist with entry of these data into the statewide database, including data proofing. Prepare written summaries and reports as requested.
  • 20% – Maintain equipment in safe, operable condition or provision for necessary repairs. Equipment includes heavy machinery (dozer, excavator, skid steer, etc.), light trucks, ATVs, and other equipment (mulchers, mowers, chainsaws, pumps, generators, etc.). Conduct maintenance of fisheries equipment such as fyke nets, gill nets, boats, outboard motors, trailers, and other survey gear.
  • 5% – Conduct miscellaneous fisheries tasks such as land management and acquisition activities, public outreach, and general office duties.
Salary Information

This position pays between $19.78 and $20.00 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 06-14. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.
