IntroductionWe are dedicated to working with Wisconsinites while preserving and enhancing the natural resources of Wisconsin. In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.
The Wisconsin DNR has multiple LTE (Limited Term Employee) positions available at our Peninsula, Newport and Rock Island State Parks in Door County, WI. These positions are expected to begin in spring 2026, work through the summer, and end in the fall.
HousingHousing is available onsite at Peninsula and Rock Island State Parks (Monthly Rent = $130-$175). There are two housing units, each with three bedrooms (generally 2 people per room), two full bathrooms, and a shared kitchen and living space. Housing at Peninsula is within walking distance to our main office and maintenance shop and less than 0.5 miles from downtown Fish Creek.
Rock Island Park Rangers will be able to work 50% of their time at Peninsula State Park or Newport State Park and 50% at Rock Island.

Primary responsibilities include customer service, facility and grounds maintenance, and public safety within state-designated parks, forests, trails, and other lands managed by the Wisconsin State Park System.
- 30% – Perform grounds maintenance, repair park structures, conduct routine building cleaning, safely operate equipment, maintain trails and water distribution systems. Support education programs by providing interpretive services such as guided hikes.
- 25% – Assist with the visitor assistance program, maintain public use areas, operate camping reservation systems, monitor recreation facilities, maintain records and statistics, and educate visitors about user conduct rules.
- 25% – Perform land management activities, provide resource protection rule information to visitors, and resolve visitor service issues.
- 20% – Conduct revenue activities such as collecting funds, issuing fee violation notices, disseminating information to the public, and maintaining records.
- 50% – Greet visitors, collect and account for fees, disseminate information, and operate at entrance stations, campgrounds, or other visitor contact stations using electronic cash registers and reservation systems.
- 20% – Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the park, recreational opportunities, interpretive services, concessions, and campground availability.
- 15% – Distribute brochures, maps, and directions, and inform visitors of potential safety hazards.
- 10% – Issue admission receipts in accordance with established guidelines.
- 5% – General maintenance and cleaning as required to meet operational needs.
- 50% – Perform maintenance of facilities and grounds, mow and trim grass, install signage, pick up litter, clean public use areas, remove trees and brush, construct or repair kiosks, mitigate safety concerns, and repair parking areas, roads, and trails.
- 20% – Manage properties and facilities, conduct inspections, and protect public health and safety.
- 15% – Operate and maintain equipment such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, power tools, and sprayers.
- 15% – Fill and grade park roads, patch blacktop, and maintain culverts and shoulders.
Combines general maintenance and repair work of a semi-skilled nature to various building types and equipment. May occasionally direct and coordinate the work of other facilities repair workers, inmates, students, or Limited Term Employees.
- 50% – Perform facility improvement projects including repairing windows, doors, screens, and walls; minor repairs to water, electrical, and heating systems; carpentry, masonry, painting, electrical, and plumbing tasks below the Journeyman level.
