As a Field Service Technician‑Network you will install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain telecommunications products and equipment that TDS sells and leases (Key Systems, PBX, Centrex Systems, and/or other business systems). You will perform work associated with splicing and maintaining outside‑plant facilities and equipment, including aerial, buried, and underground fiber‑optic and copper cable. The role includes customer interaction, proactive sales of TDS services and products, and providing superior customer service by identifying needs and delivering communications solutions.

Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the selected individual must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Bonduel, WI warehouse located at 229 E Green Bay St, Bonduel, WI 54107.
Responsibilities- Assist with and perform on‑site installation, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone equipment, general network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber‑optic/copper facilities, and other TDS products & services.
- Identify defective cable locations using test equipment and repair buried, aerial, underground, or customer cable.
- Locate, identify, and mark company underground facilities to prevent damage, keeping an orderly log of all locate requests.
- Perform cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
- Respond to trouble dispatches and provide troubleshooting support techniques.
- Maintain record systems (cross connects, line groups, network elements, etc.).
- Provide excellent customer service and proactively sell TDS products and services.
- Gain working knowledge of RUS standards and grounding practices for outside‑plant maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- 1+ year of basic technical telecommunications experience or current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
- 6+ months of basic fiber‑optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation, or switch training.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Adherence to TDS attendance guidelines.
- Successful completion of customer‑specific requirements (e.g., background check).
- Availability for on‑call/standby responsibilities; willingness to work overtime and occasional travel.
- Successful completion of the Safety Course curriculum; maintenance of DOT requirements for operating vehicles with combined GVRW >10,000 lbs.
- Strong technical understanding of fiber and copper plant installation and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of telecommunication products and services, including structured wiring, video/CATV/DBS installation, and associated equipment.
- Proficiency with computer applications such as databases, dispatch systems, plant record systems, MS Office, and more.
- Independent decision making with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated customer service, sales, communication, and organizational skills.
- Capability to operate vehicles with manual transmissions.
Typical duties require sitting, standing, writing, and operating a computer and telephone. The role involves frequent movement, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balance or climbing. Lifting up to 50 pounds is regular; occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds may occur. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Outdoor work, mechanical rooms, and extreme weather conditions are possible.
Exposure to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment is inherent to the position.
