Principal Platform Engineer, EU

We’re looking for a curious, rigorous, problem-hungry platform engineer (who codes!) to carry the ball as we bring Ashby to the big leagues. Ashby builds software that lets talent teams build an efficient, delightful, respectful hiring process. You’ll help us build a “paved road” that reliable engineering teams can safely take to the moon and back.

• Optimize our homegrown ultra-dynamic recruiting DSL‑to‑SQL compiler and create tools to help developers do so
• Create automated guardrails for the security and privacy of our customer data
• Help our developers ship features fast through canary deploys, gradual rollouts and feature flags, while keeping complexity manageable and reducing downtime
• Work with the business and the engineering team to define SLOs and implement the corresponding SLIs
• Ensure all communication with external services supports retries and circuit‑breakers
• Implement the infrastructure to support an event‑driven architecture and data warehouse

• You never stop. You get obsessed about a problem that doesn’t yet make sense and hunt every mismatch. We’ll give you state‑of‑the‑art monitoring tools and data to help you solve it.
• You don’t take shortcuts. You speak up for the future user, the edge case, the doomsday design.
• You care about what you do and the team you work with, and you want to help others improve.
• You’ve built infrastructure at a later stage than Ashby’s current one; you understand how to handle millions of data points, automate provisioning, monitoring, and release processes.
• You’re a Swiss army knife. You’ll tackle infrastructure updates, security enforcements, database optimisation, Kubernetes debugging, and digging through Typescript traces.

• Prefer that a manager makes all decisions; you need to ship outcomes independently and be accountable.
• Hate SQL; you’ll need to understand data models and performance.
• Don’t code; reviewing and submitting code is part of the day‑to‑day work.
• Prefer live meetings over async written communication; our culture is very async.
• Fatigue on just giving updates; you’ll need to manage your own projects without a project manager.
