Yard Equipment Operator, 2nd shift

Help keep Merrill Steel’s yard running safely and smoothly. As a Yard Equipment Operator, you’ll use heavy equipment to organize materials, load and unload freight, maintain the grounds, and support teams across the facility. You’ll also assist with loading flatbed trailers and help keep equipment and work areas in good condition.

Second shift employees work Monday – Thursday, 3:30pm – 3:00am, Fridays are voluntary.

No Saturdays or Sundays.

• Operate yard equipment, including Combi-Lifts, forklifts, spotter trucks, and semis.
• Use overhead cranes and rig loads safely.
• Weigh loads accurately and support safe load planning, including oversized loads and weight distribution.
• Load complete orders in the staging area or onto trailers.
• Move trailers as needed to support other departments.
• Help maintain an organized steel yard and clean work area.
• Meet production expectations while following safety procedures.
• Work outdoors in a range of weather conditions and in areas where paint, thinner, and welding fumes may be present.

• Basic operating knowledge of Combi-Lifts, forklifts, spotter trucks or semis, and overhead cranes.
• Familiarity with load weighing, oversized loads, trucking guidelines, and weight distribution.
• Ability to rig loads correctly for lifting.
• Ability to work outdoors in changing and sometimes extreme weather, and in areas where paint, thinner, and welding fumes may be present.
