Position: Registered Nurse - Medicine for Older Adults

The Role

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will have responsibility for assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care, and/or the implementation and evaluation of these programmes ensuring the delivery of high quality care to patients.

The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision. The post holder may be required to demonstrate procedures to and supervise registered and/or unregistered staff, as well as student nurses.

Duties may vary with the type of ward / department and the degree of patient dependency.

Additional required after 2 years Post registration

The post holder will direct, coordinate and supervise, where appropriate, the work of other staff within the ward or department to promote best practice in relation to patient care.

In the absence of the senior charge nurse/team leader, or deputy, the post holder will provide cover to ensure effective operation of the ward /department.

What

we’ll need you to bring
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration
  • The post holder will be required to demonstrate excellent team working skills with the ability to work using own initiative
  • Effective listening, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

Contract type

Fixed Term or Secondment until December 2026.

Part Time

34.04 hours

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro‑rata.

Please note this is a fixed term post until December 2026. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Ward 10 Medicine for Older Adults within University Hospital Wishaw.
