Overview

The Role Provide domestic service to patients, staff and visitors of NHS Lanarkshire (NHSL) premises through effective and efficient methods, delivering a safe and welcoming environment and meeting the required NHSL and Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) standards. To work alongside and support new staff in the working environment.

Organisation NHS Lanarkshire serves a population of 655,000 across rural and urban communities in North and South Lanarkshire. The organisation comprises Acute Services (hospital-based services across three main sites), Corporate & Property & Support Services, and North and South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnerships, delivering integrated primary healthcare and social care services.

Role responsibilities

Provide domestic services to patients, staff and visitors in NHSL premises, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment and ensuring adherence to NHSL and HAI standards. Work alongside and support new staff in the working environment.

What we'll need you to bring
  • Knowledge of cleaning standards and related procedures.
  • On-the-job training and induction (typically 4–6 weeks, depending on hours/days worked) to achieve full competency across a range of duties.
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety, including participation in risk assessments for individual tasks.
  • PaMOVA training level 1 and level 2 if identified following a risk assessment.
  • Undertake NHS Lanarkshire compulsory training.
  • Undertake mandatory Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) standards.
  • Complete NHSS Domestic Services Workbook.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively and efficiently in a busy environment.
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology.

Please note that for vacancies where a driving licence is required, it must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

Nice to have
  • Recognised SVQ or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Experience in a domestic services/cleaning environment.
  • Knowledge of systems and processes (e.g., HAI, Manual Handling, Management of Aggression, Infection Control, COSHH, Fire Safety).
  • Experience with a range of electrical cleaning equipment.
  • Willingness to learn and ability to work under pressure.
Contract and location
  • Fixed Term or Secondment for 12 months.
  • Part time; 19.8 hours.

Please note this is a part-time post and the salary will be pro-rata. This is a fixed-term post for 12 months. Where a post has temporary funding and an existing NHS Lanarkshire staff member wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee must have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

This role will be based in Domestic Services within University Hospital Wishaw. The working pattern will be varied. Applicants shortlisted for interview may be considered for similar vacancies in alternative locations.
