The Role

Manages staff within the TB/Bacteriology/Mycology services including personal development, CPD, discipline and equipment selection on behalf of the lead Biomedical Scientist.

Responsible for service and maintenance of all automated analysers for the TB/Bacteriology/Mycology service in Lanarkshire.

Responsible for the budget for reagents and supplies for the TB/Bacteriology/Mycology services.

Responsible for the delivery of NHS Lanarkshire policy for the TB/Bacteriology/Mycology services in conjunction with the Lead Consultant for Microbiology and Biomedical Scientist Lead for Microbiology.

Responsible for delivery of training and development for all grades of Biomedical Scientist and support staff within TB/Bacteriology/Mycology.

Responsible for service delivery of TB/Bacteriology/Mycology laboratory services across the three acute hospitals of NHS Lanarkshire on behalf of the Lead Biomedical Scientist.

In this key role, you will:

  • Responsible for delivery of the TB/Bacteriology/Mycology services for NHS Lanarkshire maintaining the level of service necessary for the high standard of patient care which NHSL Hospitals provide including management and supervision of qualified and unqualified staff working in these areas. This person has responsibility for interpreting policies in relation to this service.
  • The post holder will represent NHS Lanarkshire TB/Bacteriology/Mycology services at Regional and National meetings where policies are agreed. This individual plays the lead role for Biomedical Science in the areas of TB/Bacteriology/Mycology, establishing a safe and effective service. This is especially important in the accurate and timely detection of highly infectious organisms and those that are highly resistant to antibiotics.
  • Adherence to policies and procedures relevant to all areas of work in accordance with Departmental, Directorate, Hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Line management responsibility for 20 to 40 members of staff across three acute sites.
  • Responsible for operation of supplies and equipment budget for the TB/Bacteriology/Mycology services to a value of greater than £250,000.
What You'll Bring
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory.
  • MSc in Biomedical Science and or Higher Specialist in TB/Bacteriology/Mycology
  • Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science.
  • Management experience and knowledge appropriate to the post is required.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development to a highly developed, specialist level including clinical & scientific skills and service development.
