About

The Role

We’re looking for a proactive and customer‑focused Motor Claims Handler to join our One Claim – Motor Insurance team in Witham, Essex. This is a full‑time, permanent role where you’ll manage a mixed caseload of up to 300 claims, including own damage, third‑party property damage, credit hire, and injury claims. You’ll be at the heart of our customer experience, handling commercial vehicle claims and fire claims, and working closely with brokers and MGAs.

Expect plenty of customer interaction and collaboration across the business as you guide claims from First Notification of Loss (FNOL) through to settlement. This role offers a Monday to Friday, 9–5 schedule, with on‑site car parking and a hybrid working pattern (3 days in office, 2 remote) after probation. During probation, you’ll be fully office‑based for training and support.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Manage a portfolio of motor claims from FNOL to final settlement, in line with SLA and Audit targets.
  • Accurately review indemnity on behalf of policyholders and correctly indicate our capacity.
  • Ensure claim settlements comply with policy coverage, terms, and limits.
  • Assess liability using evidence such as statements, photos, dashcam footage, and police reports.
  • Appoint and liaise with service providers (repairers, engineers, recovery agents, solicitors).
  • Identify fraud indicators and refer suspicious cases for further investigation.
  • Handle policyholder own damage claims timely and with clear communication whilst keeping customers updated on claim progress and provide guidance on next steps.
  • Negotiate settlements with third parties, insurers and customers; ensuring claim costs are controlled and leakage is minimised.
  • Collaborate with all members of the company where applicable.
  • Participate in team meetings, training and development initiatives.
Who We Are Looking For

You’ll have experience in motor insurance and/or claims handling, with strong communication skills and sound judgment. You’ll be confident managing a varied caseload and making decisions that balance customer service with commercial considerations.

Additional Desirable Knowledge And Skills
  • Understanding of motor vehicle damage and repair processes.
  • Ability to review and negotiate credit hire claims.
  • Familiarity with claims management systems and digital documentation tools.
  • Cert CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) or working towards it.
  • Knowledge of personal injury claims and relevant injury portals.
What You Will Get

When you join SRG, you’re stepping into more than just a role—you’re becoming part of a team that backs your ambitions and celebrates your success. We’ll give you the space, support and opportunities to grow your skills, explore new challenges, and shape a career you’re proud of.

And because we believe great work should be rewarded, here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Competitive salary.
  • 25 days annual leave.
