Job summary
The Clinical Physician Assistant (PA) will work as part of the general practice multidisciplinary team to provide high‑quality, patient‑centred clinical care under the supervision of a named GP. The role includes assessment and management of patients presenting with a wide range of acute, chronic, and preventative healthcare needs.
In addition, the post holder will actively support primary care‑based research and quality improvement projects, including patient identification and recruitment, data collection, and study delivery, contributing to the practice’s research portfolio and evidence‑based service development.
Main duties of the job Clinical Responsibilities- Conduct patient consultations (face‑to‑face, telephone, and digital) for acute, chronic, and preventative care
- Take comprehensive medical histories and perform appropriate physical examinations
- Formulate differential diagnoses and management plans under GP supervision
- Manage long‑term conditions in line with local and national guidelines
- Request, review, and act on investigations within scope of practice
- Provide follow‑up care, safety‑netting, and appropriate onward referrals
- Contribute to health promotion, screening, and vaccination programmes
- Accurately document consultations in the clinical system (e.g. EMIS)
- Participate in clinical meetings, MDT discussions, and practice meetings
- Escalate complex or high‑risk cases appropriately to supervising GPs
- Support the delivery of research studies
- Identify and screen eligible patients for research studies during routine clinics
- Assist with patient approach, recruitment, and informed consent processes
- Conduct research‑related appointments and follow‑ups as delegated
- Collect, enter, and maintain accurate research data in line with study protocols
- Maintain study documentation and comply with ethical and governance requirements
- Ensure adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and data protection regulations
- Liaise with GP investigators, research nurses and external collaborators
Eynsham Medical Group is a well‑established NHS GP practice serving around 15,000‑16,000 patients from two sites:
Eynsham Medical Centre and Long Hanborough Surgery in West Oxfordshire. It provides a comprehensive range of primary care services, including acute and chronic disease management, preventive care, vaccinations, and access to both face‑to‑face and online consultations.
The practice caters to a diverse patient population, including a significant proportion of older adults. Facilities at both sites are accessible and designed to support patient needs. The practice is inspected by the Care Quality Commission and has previously been rated Good overall, recognising safe, compassionate, and patient‑centred care.
Person Specification Essential- Must have experience working in Primary Care as a Physician Assistant.
- Must be a Qualified Physician Assistant with current registration.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD and commitment to professional development.
- Strong clinical assessment and decision‑making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Interest or experience in primary care research (desirable).
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
