Rullion are looking to recruit for the following role:
Electronics Engineer.

Start: 1st May 2026

12 month contract

Location :
Oxford

Inside IR35

PAYE £46 Per hour /£59 Per hour Umbrella.

7.5 hours per day 37.5 hours per week

Power Supply & Power Electronics Design
  • Design and develop high-current, high-stability power supplies for superconducting magnets and related systems
  • Design linear and switch-mode power converters (DC/DC, AC/DC, current-regulated supplies)
  • Develop precision current regulation and control loops with excellent stability and low ripple
  • Perform detailed control-loop analysis (Bode plots, phase margin, transient response)
  • Design protection circuits (over-current, over-voltage, ground fault, quench-related protection)
  • Select power semiconductors (IGBTs, MOSFETs, diodes), magnetics, and passive components

    Magnet System Support
Magnet System Support
  • Support powering, ramping, and steady-state operation of superconducting magnets
  • Understand magnet load characteristics, inductive energy storage, and fault conditions
  • Interface with quench detection and protection systems
  • Contribute to safe operating procedures and interlock systems
  • Support commissioning and troubleshooting of magnet power systems
Control & Digital Electronics
  • Design control electronics for power converters (analogue and digital)
  • Implement digital control using microcontrollers, DSPs, or FPGAs where appropriate
  • Develop interfaces for monitoring, diagnostics, and remote control
  • Support firmware integration and debugging in collaboration with embedded software engineers
PCB Design & Hardware Integration
  • Design schematics and oversee PCB layout for power and control electronics, preferably with Mentor Graphics experience.
  • Apply best practices for high-current routing, creepage/clearance, grounding, and isolation
  • Address EMC/EMI challenges associated with high-power switching systems
  • Work closely with mechanical and thermal engineers to ensure effective cooling and packaging
Prototyping, Testing & Commissioning
  • Build, test, and debug power electronics prototypes
  • Develop and execute test plans including load testing, thermal testing, and fault testing
  • Use laboratory and high-power test equipment (power analysers, oscilloscopes, current probes, HV test equipment)
  • Support system commissioning and on-site troubleshooting as required
Documentation & Compliance
  • Produce detailed design documentation, test reports, and operating manuals
  • Support compliance with relevant standards (e.g., electrical safety, EMC)
  • Generate BOMs and support component obsolescence management
  • Contribute to manufacturing documentation, DFM/DFT, and supplier technical engagement
  • Experience of IEC
    60601 for Medical Electronics
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Strong experience in power supply and power converter design
  • Proven understanding of:
    • Current-regulated power supplies
    • Control loop design and stability analysis
    • High-current and high-energy systems
    • Electrical safety and fault protection
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory and high-power test environments
  • Proficiency with schematic capture, PCB design, and simulation tools
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Direct experience with superconducting magnets or accelerator/physics power systems
  • Experience with quench protection or magnet safety systems
  • Experience with precision, low-noise power supplies
  • Familiarity with cryogenic environments and their electrical implications
  • FPGA, DSP, or digital power control experience
  • Embedded C/C++ or control firmware experience
  • Experience in research, scientific, medical, or large-scale industrial facilities
