UKAEA is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Package Manager to lead the planning and delivery of safe, compliant, and efficient electrical decommissioning activities within the JDR Programme. This is a high-responsibility role, managing HV and LV systems through pre-construction and construction phases, with oversight of decommissioning plans, risk mitigation, and technical documentation.
You will bring expert knowledge in electrical systems, regulatory compliance, and decommissioning best practices, working closely with programme teams, contractors, and the Plant Safety Team to ensure successful execution of complex electrical decommissioning projects.
Key Responsibilities Electrical Decommissioning Management- Lead electrical decommissioning planning, including schedules coordinated with waste, logistics, and site interfaces
- Conduct site surveys to identify assets for isolation, removal, or disposal
- Perform risk assessments and implement electrical hazard mitigation measures
- Supervise disconnection, removal, and safe disposal of electrical equipment (transformers, switch gear, panels, wiring, generators)
- Maintain electrical drawings, isolation registers, method statements, risk assessments, and technical reports
- Engage with programme stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers to define requirements and manage interfaces
- Present technical artifacts at gate reviews and communicate engineering strategy
- Coordinate with principal designers and contractor teams for smooth execution
- Provide expert advice to resolve delivery challenges using creative solutions and lessons learned
- Mentor and train engineers, sharing knowledge and building capability across the programme
- Reach back to the parent organisation for best practices and technical guidance
- Ensure electrical decommissioning meets regulatory, legal, and UKAEA standards
- Verify compliance with end-state requirements and traceability matrices
- Apply UK design codes and standards, including BS 7671, and LOTO procedures
- Discovery & Initiation Phase:
Develop decommissioning schemes, hazard assessments, plant inventory, and risk mitigation strategies - Pre-Construction Phase:
Produce detailed decommissioning plans, engineering designs, method statements, and feasibility studies - Construction Phase:
Supervise execution, verify compliance, manage interfaces, and ensure safe removal and disposal of electrical systems - Ongoing:
Stakeholder engagement, advisory support, knowledge transfer, and lessons learned
- Engineering degree (BSc/MSc) in Electrical or relevant discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or significant experience in electrical decommissioning roles
- Familiarity with CDM regulations
- UK design standards and compliance, including Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Electrical systems: distribution networks, emergency power, control systems
- LOTO procedures and electrical hazard mitigation
- Electrical design codes, BS 7671
- Proven delivery of electrical solutions in decommissioning, demolition, or complex facilities
- Experience managing complex technical projects and supervising teams
- Familiarity with decommissioning information management systems
- Strong communication, coordination, and technical writing skills
- Ability to influence stakeholders and lead teams effectively
- Analytical and problem-solving capability
- Mentoring and knowledge transfer experience
- Experience on nuclear sites
- Proficiency in electrical design software (preferably Solid Works)
- Experience in technical leadership alongside project managers
- Lead complex electrical decommissioning projects in a technically advanced, high-profile programme
- Influence strategy and execution of HV and LV system decommissioning
- Build capability and mentor teams while working in a collaborative, regulated environment
- Hybrid working with significant on-site presence
