Overview

Are you an experienced Children’s Nurse looking for a new challenge?

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Community Children’s Nurse to join our dynamic team delivering high-quality care across Oxfordshire.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist nursing care and advice to children with acute and short-term conditions
  • Provide specialist nursing care and advice to children with long-term conditions
  • Provide specialist nursing care and advice to children with disabilities and complex health needs, including those requiring continuing care and respite support
  • Provide specialist nursing care and advice to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, including palliative and end-of-life care
  • Work in partnership with families, empowering them to confidently care for their child at home while acting as an advocate for the child’s voice and best interests
  • Collaborate with multi‑agency partners to ensure seamless, family-centred care within the community
  • Undertake planned clinical assessments and interventions in line with agreed care pathways, recognising and appropriately escalating any signs of clinical deterioration
  • Work closely with acute-based medical teams to support children who can be safely cared for at home
  • Operate the service’s single point of access for families and professionals, triage referrals and allocate workload across localities to ensure timely and effective responses
  • Provide end‑of‑life care within the child’s home environment and support the team through the on‑call rota
  • Participate in the structured rolling education programme, including a thorough induction for all new starters
Location & Travel

The post is based in Witney/Abingdon, but as a county‑wide service you will be required to travel across the four localities. A full, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes are essential.

Hours & Working Pattern

Core service hours are 08:00‑20:00, 7 days a week. Staff work contracted hours on a shift pattern, including weekends and bank holidays. The 24‑hour palliative on‑call rota (20:00‑08:00) is currently covered by Band 6 staff and above. Flexible working arrangements may be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Induction & Training
  • All new starters have a thorough induction process – local and Trust‑wide – designed to create a supportive working environment
  • Appointment to this post is subject to the Trust receiving satisfactory references covering 3 years of employment or study
  • Employees are expected to undertake mandatory and statutory training related to their role
