About The Role:
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to lead the design and development of multi-functional F.h.L.A.P. (Fuel, Hydraulic, Lubrication, Actuation, and Pneumatic) test equipment. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer who enjoys guiding projects from concept through production and who thrives in a hands-on, cross-functional environment. You’ll play a key role in supporting assembly, start-up, and commissioning efforts while contributing to the advancement of aviation testing technology.
Our FLAP group delivers test solutions for a wide array of aircraft components, including:
- Fuel systems: pumps, boost pumps, hydromechanical units (HMU), fuel metering units (FMU), valves, nozzles, servos
- Lubrication systems: valves, heat exchangers, oil pumps, hydraulic clutches, coolers, tanks
- Actuation systems: electro-mechanical linear and rotary actuators, power drive units (PDU), cargo winches
- Pneumatic systems: valves, air turbine starters, heat exchangers, air cycle machines, environmental control systems
- Interpret customer specifications and maintenance manuals to define equipment requirements
- Create 3D CAD models and layout drawings using Solid Works
- Design mechanical components, including enclosures, fixtures, manifolds, and piping systems
- Perform engineering calculations to ensure safety and functionality
- Select and source components, collaborating with suppliers for customization
- Optimize packaging of hydraulic and electrical modules
- Generate detailed fabrication and assembly drawings with GD&T
- Manage BOMs and release documentation
- Support assembly and troubleshooting during build phases
- Lead customer design reviews and provide mechanical expertise
- Collaborate with electrical, hydraulic/pneumatic, and software engineers
- Assist in technical manual development
- Plan and prioritize tasks to meet project goals
- Participate in equipment startup and checkout at factory and customer sites
- Travel up to 10% (domestic and international)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 8+ years of relevant experience in custom equipment or systems design
- Experience in mid-sized companies (150–300 employees)
- Solid Works Professional certification (preferred)
- Background in fixture, tooling, and automation design
- Strong understanding of hydraulic/pneumatic systems and schematics
- Basic knowledge of electrical engineering and PLC programming
- Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. green card holder
