Job Summary

Hands‑on Mechanical Engineer responsible for designing mechanical systems used in liquid cooling system products. This person will work with a small team of refrigeration, electrical and manufacturing engineers to bring the new product through its full product development process, which includes early concept through production support. The candidate will be responsible for mechanical component and sensor selection, mechanical schematics, and working with the electrical engineering on fluid controls.

This position will develop the layout of the mechanical pumping and cooling systems, as well as the structure or enclosure for the product. The engineer will work with the full engineering team for testing and debugging of the system under development. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the product’s mechanical hardware, sensors and fluid controls meet the functional and performance requirements while delivering on schedule and on budget.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Interface with the design team and customers to understand and develop product specifications, evaluating trade‑offs between performance, functionality, quality, cost and schedule.
  • Design mechanical pumping and cooling systems, selecting mechanical components and sensors. Key mechanical items include pumps, tanks, heat exchangers and fans.
  • Design mechanical portion of flow and heat transfer control solutions.
  • Create mechanical product schematics.
  • Develop and execute verification test plans.
  • Write test procedures and engineering reports.
  • Create new items and BOMs for the electrical portion of the design.
  • Manage the mechanical panel portion for new product development, ensuring that cost, performance and schedule goals are achieved and actively managing risk mitigation efforts.
  • Follow established procedures, driving continuous improvement and updating procedures applicable to your area as necessary.
  • Provide product support from early concept through product development and throughout production.
  • Support failure and root cause analysis of prototype and production level products.
  • Interact with other Boyd product team members globally, as most programs require use of global resources within Boyd.
  • Travel – limited. Typically less than 5% per year. Domestic and international travel is possible.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education – BSME minimum. Willing to consider other similar education if substantial experience is impressive and directly applicable.
  • 5+ Years of hands‑on experience designing mechanical pumping systems.
  • 3+ Years of hands‑on experience designing cooling systems with heat exchangers and fans.
  • Working knowledge of engineering tools: PLM software, MRP software (Oracle Cloud a plus), knowledgeable/experienced in working with temperature, pressure, flow and other sensors.
  • Solid understanding of total system testing, debugging, manufacturing, low cost, high quality & reliability.
  • Able to work independently and prioritize work based on the candidate’s understanding of the given overall project requirements as well as other projects within the organization.
  • Good experience and skills in technical problem solving, analyzing system risk, identifying options, making recommendations.
  • Daily use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience/Knowledge with electro‑mechanical systems a major plus.
  • Experience/Knowledge with Solid Works a major plus.
