Position

TPA Claims Supervisor at USI Insurance Services

Key Details

Remote work is possible; the role prefers candidates within New York State but is open to the New England region. Some client site travel (a couple of times per month) is required.

Salary: $91,675 - $109,200.

Role Overview

Supervise the activities of one claim handler within the third‑party administration (TPA) claims department. Responsibilities include overseeing the processing, paying, and resolution of liability claims. Ensure all work adheres to internal policies, state regulations, and carrier or client instructions, and maintain compliance with applicable laws and guidelines.

Lead, coach, train, and evaluate staff, ensuring goal attainment and fostering professional development. Manage scheduling, workload delegation, and continuous improvement of claims processes.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise 1 claim handler, including hiring, training, career development, performance reviews, and performance improvement plans.
  • Manage claim handling activities, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide direct staff leadership: direction, goal setting, evaluation, coaching, counseling, training, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, standards, and regulatory guidelines across the division.
  • Oversee claims administration: receive and research client claims, determine payments, ensure policy compliance, and maintain proper timelines.
  • Maintain strong business relationships with clients, visiting regularly and exchanging account status information.
  • Resolve escalated issues in collaboration with staff, management, internal departments, external contacts, and clients as necessary.
  • Manage scheduling and assignment of work to meet key deliverables and service goals.
  • Review and evaluate activities regularly, providing management with performance updates and recommending corrective actions.
  • Stay informed on industry developments and regulatory changes, sharing insights with staff and recommending policy updates.
  • Participate in civic activities to promote community growth and a positive company image.
  • Engage in special projects and additional duties as required.
  • Promote a positive, ethical, and respectful work environment and model company culture internally and externally.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • 4‑year degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 10‑15 years of liability claims experience.
  • In‑depth knowledge of liability claims management and related regulations.
  • Strong supervisory experience with coaching, training, and motivating staff.
  • Ability to evaluate data and develop claims strategy.
  • Negotiation skills for resolving large claims at minimum cost.
  • Strong organizational and team‑collaboration abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with claims management technology applications.
  • Continuing education required to maintain licensing.
  • Ability to conduct sales presentations and provide client service.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Travel required at least a couple times per month.
  • Valid NYS Department of Finance Services Casualty General Adjuster License.
