Software Engineer I – Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) Software Department

What

You Will Do as a Software Engineer
  • Work on an agile team responsible for developing and delivering software for one of the MDS Department’s programs.
  • Assist and participate in the requirements, design, development and testing of real‑time application software and tools, including development of new work products or enhancement of existing applications and systems.
  • Participate in internal reviews of software components and systems.
  • Work on problems with defined scope, schedule, and expectations.
  • Follow established development practices and processes to maintain the configuration management of software products.
What You Will Learn

The workings of Missile Defense Systems and/or Command and Control (C2) Systems, testing frameworks and best practices to enable high‑quality software deliveries utilizing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery concepts, and how to develop and maintain large‑scale, complex software solutions in an Agile environment.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM discipline.
  • 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships).
  • Experience developing software with C, C++, Java, or Ada.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret U.S. government issued security clearance prior to start date.
Qualifications We Value
  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, memory management, and multithreaded applications.
  • Well‑developed communication, technical writing, oral presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins), configuration management tools (Git, Bitbucket, Artifactory), and data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python).
  • Experience contributing to a team environment for the purpose of developing creative solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with time‑critical requirements.
  • Ability to promote a culture of continuous learning, cross‑team collaboration and training.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits and incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether the position is covered by a collective‑bargaining agreement.
