Position: Freelance, Social Media Publisher (Talent Community)

The purpose of this role is to support the publishing of content across McLaren Formula 1's social media channels, with a focus on delivering against our business objectives, ultimately driving continuous engagement and channel growth.

The postholder is accountable for supporting the team in ensuring all social media channels are populated thoroughly over a race weekend, from a regular publishing cadence and adhering to the plan to proactive community management.

Role Dimensions:

You will report into the social media manager and be a part of McLaren Racing's wider digital team, providing you with the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from the best professionals in their respective fields in Formula 1.

This freelance role provides hybrid working but may sometimes require you to be at the McLaren Technology Centre (Woking, UK) for big moments to work collaboratively with colleagues.

McLaren operates in a fast-paced, high-performance environment, and the nature of racing on weekends and working in social media means regularly working during unsocial hours across different time zones.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Publishing of content across all social media channels in line with McLaren's overarching social media strategy.
  • Hands-on creation of content for all McLaren F1 social channels including basic editing of phone content for vertical video channels and grading of imagery.
  • Executing a quick turnaround and real-time publishing of live content that's delivered over a race weekend.
  • Actively supporting community management, monitoring fan sentiment and being reactive to fans discussions.
  • Capitalising and jumping on trends.
  • Be at the heart of content ideation, collaborating with the wider digital team and external freelancers to deliver engaging content to fans over the course of a race weekend.
  • Deliver publishing of the social media plans.
  • Supporting with the creation of basic graphics including using pre-built templates to create assets.
  • Adhere to team processes, guidelines and policies set by McLaren Racing.
  • Copywriting for social media channels, enforcing and maintaining McLaren's tone of voice across all platforms.
  • Support in the execution of converting sign-ups to McLaren Racing Club and traffic to the McLaren App, McLaren website and the McLaren Store.
  • Support in the execution of partner and licensing content across McLaren Racing's social channels in line with contractual rights.
  • Support in updating driver folders of imagery over a race weekend.
Qualifications
  • Experience in social media publishing and community engagement at a professional sports team.
  • On the ground experience operating in a high-pressure live sports environment is essential.
  • Excellent copywriting, proofreading and editing skills, demonstrating a clear understanding of social media tone of voice.
  • Demonstrable passion for social media community engagement and an understanding of the role that social media plays in sports fan engagement.
  • A demonstrable interest and understanding of Formula 1 is essential.
  • Proficient social media platform knowledge, including an understanding of best practices across every social media channel with the ability to articulate this when educating internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong proactive communication skills, from verbal to email and instant messaging.
  • Demonstrable ability to identify and execute social media trends.
  • Basic video and photo editing skills for social media content.
  • Basic graphic editing skills in Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience working in a similar role in motor sport is helpful, but not essential.
