A warm, welcoming, and highly inclusive mainstream school in Surrey is looking to appoint a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join its dedicated Inclusion team. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a supportive staff team who are passionate about creating an environment where every child is valued, understood, and able to succeed.

The school has a strong inclusive ethos and a well-established SEN provision supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Autism Spectrum Disorder), Severe Learning Difficulties (Severe Learning Difficulties), ADHD, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have EHCPs in place.

You will be working closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and the wider staff team to ensure pupils are fully included in school life and supported to achieve their full potential.

About the Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with additional needs both in the classroom and across wider school life. You will be part of a collaborative team that works together to provide consistent, structured, and nurturing support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils with SEN across KS1 and/or KS2 within a mainstream classroom setting
  • Working closely with class teachers to deliver adapted and differentiated learning activities
  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups where required
  • Helping pupils engage with learning through structured routines and personalised strategies
  • Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour, and social interaction throughout the school day
  • Using positive behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques when needed
  • Supporting communication development using visual aids, PECS, Makaton, and other strategies
  • Assisting pupils in accessing both academic learning and wider school activities (assemblies, playtime, trips, etc.)
  • Contributing to EHCP targets and supporting ongoing progress monitoring
  • Working collaboratively with SENCO, teachers, and external professionals (Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists, CAMHS, etc.)
  • Promoting independence, confidence, and inclusion in all aspects of school life
  • Helping to create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment

About You

The school is looking for a caring, proactive, and reliable individual who enjoys working as part of a team and is passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

You will have:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN in a school or educational setting (essential)
  • Experience supporting pupils with ASD, SLD, ADHD, or SEMH needs
  • A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour and learning support
  • Confidence in supporting pupils with challenging behaviour in a positive and supportive way
  • Ability to follow guidance from teachers and SENCO while also using initiative when needed
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for inclusion and supporting pupils with complex needs
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
