Job description

At McLaren, we set the standard for high performance in sport. If you want to test your ideas with the world watching, measure progress in milliseconds, and play your part in racing history—you belong here.

The Role

We’re looking for a Tyre Performance Engineer to support race and test events by analysing tyre behaviour and its interaction with overall vehicle performance. You’ll deliver fast, accurate insights to help optimise car setup and development, while continuously improving our tyre analysis tools and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse track data to assess tyre performance and identify setup and development opportunities.

  • Deliver real-time tyre analysis during race and test events, reporting findings under pressure to strict deadlines.

  • Develop and refine tyre analysis methods, processes, and toolsets.

  • Communicate tyre insights clearly to Performance, Race Engineering, and the wider Engineering Department.

  • Support event operations from the MTC and occasionally at trackside.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.

Job requirements

What You’ll Bring

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

  • 2–3 years’ experience in tyre and performance analysis, ideally in motor sport.

  • Strong understanding of tyre behaviour and vehicle dynamics.

  • Proficiency in MATLAB and experience with analysis tool development.

  • Experience in Performance or Race Engineering roles.

Personal Attributes

  • A team player with initiative and a drive to achieve results.

  • Excellent communicator, able to tailor insights to different audiences.

  • Open-minded and adaptable to changing scopes and priorities.

  • Self-motivated, organised, and collaborative.

  • Committed to learning and sharing knowledge.
