Salary range from £29,633 to £40,988 dependent on experience plus flexible benefits allowance up to £2,071 per annum and a vehicle allowance of up to £2,683 per annum. Woking. Closing on 02/08/2026 at 23:55. Permanent | Flexible Hours/Full Time. 37 hours per week.
Woking Borough Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to join our busy and dedicated Housing Standards Team as a Housing Standards Officer on a full time, permanent basis.
Responsibilities- Report to the Senior Housing Standards Officer and be responsible for improving housing standards across the Borough by working pro-actively, providing advice and guidance, undertaking detailed property inspections, and taking appropriate enforcement action using a wide range of relevant legislation, including licensing, to reduce hazards in housing in the private sector.
- Contribute to major sector changes with the implementation of the Renters' Rights Act and the introduction of Additional Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation.
- Experience in Housing Standards and knowledge of housing legislation across all areas of housing standards.
- Excellent customer service skills and knowledge and experience of residential property and tenancies.
- Positive and confident outlook with the ability to communicate accurately and effectively with a wide range of people, including diverse client groups.
- Opportunity to undertake a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Regulatory Compliance with a focus on Housing.
- Valid full driver’s licence (required for this role).
- Disclosure Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will be required; the Council provides assistance and details in the application pack.
- The interview will include a short written element.
- The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential. An assessment may be required.
