Overview

The closing date is 22 February 2026

Senior Ophthalmic Technician (Fixed Term) – part time, 18.5 hours a week across 2 days on a temporary contract. This role is for an autonomous Ophthalmic Technician who also works as part of, and contributes to, a multi-disciplinary Ophthalmic team across the Ashford and St Peters' Trust and satellite sites run by the trust, currently including Woking Community Hospital.

You will undertake ophthalmic diagnostic tests required during busy clinics including OCT (anterior and posterior), autofluorescence, red-free, multi-colour and colour fundus photography on various equipment, as well as corneal topography and specular microscopy. You will also be required to perform visual field tests and be willing to learn new skills to support all clinics in the Ophthalmology Department.

You will work in both the main outpatient clinics and digital surveillance clinics covering a wide variety of eye conditions including AMD, diabetic maculopathy/retinopathy, corneal conditions, glaucoma and other general pathologies.

Main duties of the job

Looking for a friendly, confident, self-motivated individual who works well on their own as well as part of a team to produce a high standard of accurate and detailed imaging for clinicians to use for diagnostic and monitoring purposes. Ideally with experience using varied ophthalmic imaging equipment and software management systems.

During busy clinics the main part of the role is to perform Optical Coherence Tomography of the maculae and discs as well as specified areas of the retina and to use different fundus cameras to document eye pathologies required for baseline and monitoring measures. Corneal clinics require use of corneal topography imaging and corneal microscopy for endothelial cell counts. Generally the role requires the ability to work with all aspects of the ophthalmic setting within clinic including imaging, vision testing and visual fields.
