Main duties of the job

The role involves delivering high-quality nursing care within a GP practice, including patient assessment, chronic disease management, cervical cytology and immunisations. The nurse will support infection control standards, perform clinical procedures such as wound care and ECGs, and contribute to hypertension management. Responsibilities also include supporting vaccination programmes (including flu campaigns), maintaining accurate clinical systems (e.g. EMIS), participating in audits and QoF targets, and working collaboratively with the wider clinical team.

The role requires keeping up to date with NICE guidance and contributing to the development and review of nursing protocols to ensure safe, effective patient care.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Practice Nurse in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, be a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Support and on occasion lead with Infection Prevention Control(IPC) and work to the IPC policy

Consult with patients and their families to undertake assessments ofpatient need

Management of chronic disease

Cervical Cytology

Childhood Immunisation

Administer a range of adult vaccinations

Organise and support Practice Manager with the flu campaign

Wound care

ECGs

Actively participate in achieving QoF and enhanced services targets and recall demands

Understand EMIS and EMIS searches

Participate in practice audit as directed by the Clinical Lead/Practice Manager

Support and participate in shared learning within the practice

To be an instrumental part of the clinical team attend regular nurse meetings

Keep up to date with NICE guidelines as required

Develop, review and implement nursing protocols in conjunction with the partners

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse
  • Mentor or teaching qualifications
  • Family Planning qualification
Experience
  • Experience of working within a nursing team
  • Experience of working within a GP Practice.
