WestudyvirusesoflivestockthatareendemicandexotictotheUK,includingzoonoticviruses,byusingthemostadvancedtoolsandtechnologiestounderstandhost-pathogeninteractionsinanimalsandarthropodvectors.

Ourmajorstrengthinunderstandingtheimmunesystemsoflivestockprovidesaplatformtocontrolcurrentdiseasesandrespondtoemergingthreats.

Thisimportantresearchwouldnotbepossiblewithouttheproportionateuseofanimals,whichareintegraltothedevelopmentofnewdiseasecontrolmeasuressuchasvaccinesanddiagnostics.

Supporting our Internationalreferencelaboratoriesat Vesicular Disease Reference Laboratory  ,WRLFMD andNon-Vesicular Reference Laboratory  ,thispositionprovidesauniqueopportunitytodevelopacareeraimedattranslatingemergingdiagnostictechniquesandimproveddiseasecontrolapproachesthatarerelevantforboththeUKandcountriesreceivingoverseasdevelopmentassistance(ODA).Workingcloselywithscientistsengagedinfundamentalresearch,youwilldevelopaportfolioofprojectsthroughexistingandnewcollaborationswithpublicandindustrialpartners.

Youwillactasaconduittopioneernewmethodsandestablishnewtools,andgenerateoutputswithinternationalimpacttoensureweachieveouraimofpredicting,detectingandcontrollingoutbreaksofviraldiseases.

• Withinthegroup,actingastheprimarycontacttoestablishandmaintaincollaborativepartnershipswithacademicandindustrialpartners
