Software Team Lead
Location: Woking (Hybrid)
Salary: £80,000 – £100,000 + Bonus & Benefits
Clearance: Must hold DV/ eDV Clearance
Position: Permanent
We’re partnering with a well-established technology organisation delivering complex software solutions across the UK Defence and National Security sector. This is an opportunity to lead talented engineering teams while remaining hands‑on with modern software development, architecture and technical decision‑making.
Rather than moving into a purely management‑focused position, you’ll mentor engineers, shape technical direction and help deliver software that solves genuinely challenging problems.
What You'll Be Doing- Leading and supporting Agile software engineering teams
- Providing technical direction across the software development lifecycle
- Breaking down customer requirements into deliverable user stories and technical solutions
- Designing and developing secure, scalable software using modern engineering practices
- Writing clean, test‑driven, maintainable code
- Designing and integrating REST APIs, user interfaces and backend services
- Developing and maintaining data ingestion services and scalable software architectures
- Collaborating with architects, engineers and customer stakeholders
- Mentoring engineers and promoting engineering best practice across the team
You’ll likely have experience with a combination of:
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, JavaScript, Go or C++
- Modern front‑end frameworks such as React, Angular or Vue.js
- Backend technologies including Node.js and RESTful APIs
- Cloud platforms including AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
- Container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- SQL and No
SQL databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB - Agile development practices and modern Dev Ops tooling
- Bash or Power Shell scripting
- Previous experience leading engineers or providing technical leadership within software teams
Most importantly, you’ll enjoy solving complex technical challenges, mentoring others and continuously learning new technologies.
