About the Role
National Energy System Operator (NESO) is seeking a highly organised and proactive Code Governance Lead to join our Market Frameworks directorate, at the centre of industry change and the future of Great Britain's energy system. In this role, you will lead code governance activities, chair key industry work groups, and work with regulators, code panels and market participants to progress changes that support the transition to net zero.
Success requires exceptional organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate complex initiatives and deliver against challenging deadlines. As a trusted governance specialist, you will build strong stakeholder relationships, facilitate effective discussions and help drive industry-wide change. We are looking for candidates with experience in project management, regulation, policy development or code modification processes who thrive in collaborative environments.
This is an exciting opportunity to influence major industry reforms and make a tangible impact on the future of Great Britain's energy sector. This role can be based from Wokingham or Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
- Act as the expert on industry code governance processes and electricity code administration, leading on these on behalf of The National Energy System Operator
- Project manage industry code changes through the governance process
- Oversee the day to day activities of the team undertaking code governance and administration activities
- Strong communication skills and engagement strategies to set best practice for code administration to enable all network users to be able to understand and contribute to code modifications
- Fulfil the Chair and technical role for internal and external working groups (e.g. Code Panels/Work groups)
- Provide advice in respect of industry codes and governance
- Identify and implement improvements in both internal and external code processes to deliver the most valuable service for our stakeholders
- Contribute to the Ofgem relationship relating to governance
- Contribute to The National Electricity System Operators input to the Code Administration Code of Practice meetings (CACoP)
- Develop expertise of key areas within the industry to better understand code modifications under development and assist with drafting code modification proposals in accordance with CACoP Principles
- Implement & drive initiatives to increase customer satisfaction across code governance
- Drive process improvements to create efficiencies within the team

About You- Strong knowledge of industry code governance processes and an understanding of the role they play in shaping the future of Great Britain's energy sector.
- Proven experience developing and delivering effective communication and stakeholder engagement strategies, ensuring complex information is accessible and stakeholders remain informed, engaged and influential in decision‑making.
- A sound understanding of GB electricity and gas markets, regulatory frameworks and the challenges and opportunities facing the energy industry.
- Experience chairing meetings, workshops or industry forums with confidence, professionalism and impartiality, enabling productive discussions and successful outcomes.
- The credibility and professionalism to represent NESO in external industry forums, building trust and maintaining effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Exceptional relationship‑building, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to engage constructively across all levels of an organisation and industry.
- Excellent interpersonal and team working skills, with a collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and stakeholder groups.
