ROLE

SUMMARY:

Reddam House Berkshire is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Summer Camp English Teacher to join our four-week Summer Camp programme. The camp runs from Sunday 12 July to Saturday 8 August 2026, with three training days prior to the start, and one wash-up/feedback day at the end of the contract.

This role has a dual focus on high-quality English language teaching (for foreign language students) and pastoral care for both day and boarding students, including health and safety, safeguarding and discipline. The post-holder will work independently with support from the Summer Camp Director and wider team, and may be appointed on a residential or non-residential basis (residential preferred for lead/support staff, with some flexibility for the right candidate).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure excellent pastoral care of day and boarding students, including health and safety, safeguarding and discipline.
  • Take the lead for activities, group management and staffing within the Languages element of camp.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality, stimulating and interactive English lessons for foreign language students.
  • Work with the Director to deliver engaging excursions/trips within the programme.
  • Assess student work, correct misunderstandings, and prepare a report for each camper at the end of their stay.
  • Manage risks appropriately during activities and support risk assessments as required.
  • Deal with issues relating to safety, child protection, timetabling, behaviour or participation, and escalate concerns to the Director.
  • Record attendance accurately and report to the Director.
  • Record first aid/health & safety issues and report to the medical lead.
  • Share photos and videos daily via the secure online platform.
  • Work alongside the boarding team, following boarding procedures (e.g., signing in/out, mealtimes, bedtime, medication and night procedures).
  • Support evening and weekend activities when required, including planning the evening activities schedule.
  • Be on call in the event of an incident, fire, intruder or other emergency.
  • Manage pocket money collection and distribution and ensure documentation/medical items are ready for arrival/departure.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
  • Experience of curriculum-based teaching.
  • Teaching and/or coaching leadership qualifications.
  • Strong pastoral approach, with the ability to ensure students’ physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, colleagues and parents.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise.
  • A reliable, adaptable and committed approach, with strong team spirit.
  • Ability to take part in afternoon, recreational and arranged sports/outdoor activities; patient, enthusiastic, self-controlled and dependable.
  • Understanding of camp ethos to ensure an excellent experience for each camper (desirable).
  • Experience in boarding and/or boarding qualifications/relevant boarding experience (desirable).
  • Multilingual capability (desirable).
  • Willingness to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, on a 6-day rota, including evening and some weekend work; one full day/night off per week.
  • A full DBS (required) and First Aid training/certification (preferred).
