Are you an experienced SEND professional with a passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs?

We are working in partnership with a Pupil Referral Unit in Wokingham to deliver high-quality alternative provision across Berkshire and the surrounding counties. Due to a growing number of referrals, we are seeking dedicated and skilled Specialist SEND Tutors to join our expanding team.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work with pupils who require a personalised educational approach, helping them rebuild confidence, overcome barriers to learning, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.

The Role

As a Specialist SEND Tutor, you will provide bespoke, one-to-one tuition to pupils of primary and secondary age who are unable to access mainstream education full-time or who require additional support outside of a school setting.

Sessions May Take Place In
  • The pupil's home
  • Community venues such as libraries or learning hubs
  • Other appropriate educational settings
You Will Be Responsible For
  • Planning and delivering personalised learning programmes tailored to individual needs
  • Differentiating teaching approaches to support a range of learning profiles
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and families
  • Supporting engagement, confidence, resilience, and independence
  • Implementing effective strategies to address barriers to learning
  • Monitoring progress and providing clear feedback and reports where required
Pupils You Will Support

You will work with learners presenting with a wide range of needs, including:

  • Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
  • Anxiety and other mental health needs
  • Communication and interaction difficulties
  • Behavioural challenges
  • Complex learning needs

Many of the pupils referred to our service have experienced significant challenges within education and benefit from a nurturing, flexible, and highly individualised approach.

About You

We are looking for professionals who have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • A strong understanding of neurodiversity and inclusive practice
  • The ability to engage learners who may be reluctant or disengaged from education
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach
  • Experience delivering personalised teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or intervention programmes
