Learning Mentor - Wokingham

Quantum Scholars is looking for a supportive, reliable and experienced Learning Mentor to work with children and young people in Wokingham. This is an in-person role and is not online work.

The role will involve providing individualised support to students who may benefit from additional academic, pastoral and emotional guidance. You will be expected to build positive and trusting relationships with students, help them develop confidence and resilience, and support them in re-engaging with education.

The successful candidate will have a patient and empathetic approach and be able to adapt their support to meet the individual needs of each student. Experience working with SEND and/or SEMH students would be particularly beneficial.

The role may involve

Providing one-to-one or small-group mentoring and educational support
Supporting students with their academic progress and engagement
Helping students develop confidence, resilience and independence
Building positive, consistent and trusting relationships with young people
Supporting students who may have struggled within a traditional school environment
Encouraging positive attitudes towards learning and education
Helping students develop organisation, communication and independent learning skills
Providing emotional and pastoral support where appropriate
Supporting students to manage challenges and develop strategies for successful learning
Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback
Working collaboratively with teachers, parents, carers and relevant professionals where required
Maintaining clear and professional communication
Following safeguarding procedures at all times

Essential requirements

Experience working with children or young people in an educational, mentoring or support setting
Experience working with students with SEND and/or SEMH needs is desirable
Experience providing one-to-one support is desirable
The ability to build strong, positive relationships with young people
Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
A patient, calm, empathetic and supportive approach
The ability to motivate and encourage students who may be disengaged from education
A genuine commitment to supporting young people to achieve their potential
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check, where required
Satisfactory professional references
