We have a variety of excellent opportunities for both General and Principal Level Building Control Surveyors to join our Building Control Solutions Team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a Full-time, Permanent basis.
Building Control Surveyor – General Level 5-6As a General Level Building Control Surveyor, you will undertake technical assessments and activities on band A and B building types, managing a portfolio of development sites from domestic and dwelling houses and non‑domestic projects. You will examine plans, carry out site inspections, and initiate enforcement action where appropriate, ensuring buildings comply with relevant regulatory standards.
Under supervision, you will also manage a caseload of band C technical projects including participating in the out of hours rota while maintaining your Registered Building Inspector status with the Building Safety Regulator. Contributing to the team's quality management system and mentoring trainees when assigned, you will liaise with a variety of stakeholders to deliver customer‑focused service within a self‑financing Building Control operation.
CandidateRequirements
- RICS or CIOB accredited degree, ONC/HNC or equivalent experience in surveying or building related discipline.
- MRICS/MCABE/MCIOB or equivalent chartered status with relevant Building Control bias and evidence of achieving CPD requirement.
- Registered Building Inspector status at Class 2D with the Building Safety Regulator
- Working towards and achieve registration with the Building Safety Regulator for Class 2F and Class 3 within a 2‑year period and continue this form of validation and registration throughout your employment at WBC.
As a Principal Building Control Surveyor, you will undertake technical assessments and make decisions on bands A to C building types, ensuring buildings comply with relevant regulatory standards. You will effectively manage a range of projects involving premises of any type, height, size, form of construction and method of design—including those within the scope of the Building Safety Act—examining plans and carrying out site inspections while initiating and dealing with enforcement action.
You will assess dangerous structures and implement immediate remedial works, act as a professional witness for the Council in legal proceedings and provide supervision and mentoring to less experienced colleagues including Trainee and Assistant Building Control Surveyors. Maintaining your Registered Building Inspector status with the Building Safety Regulator, you will contribute to the achievement of a self‑financing Building Control service whilst liaising with a variety of stakeholders to ensure seamless team delivery of guidance, advice and service excellence.
