SALARY: £52,414 to £57,870 per annum + Benefits

LOCATION: Hybrid – working from the office in Wokingham, Berkshire (RG40) and from home

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 37 hours per week – Flexible hours

JOB OVERVIEW

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Management Accountant to play a key role in supporting effective financial management, robust governance and the efficient use of resources.

Working closely with service managers, budget holders and senior stakeholders, the Senior Management Accountant will provide timely, accurate and insightful financial information to support decision making, budget planning, forecasting and service delivery.

As a Senior Management Accountant, you will also help develop team members, improve financial processes and support transformation and service improvement initiatives across the organisation.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Senior Management Accountant include:

  • Budget Monitoring and Forecasting: Lead and support budget monitoring, forecasting and financial planning activities
  • Financial Advice and Reporting: Provide timely, accurate and insightful financial information to managers and senior stakeholders
  • Planning and Statutory Returns:
    Support Medium-Term Financial Plans, annual budgets, statutory finance returns, statutory accounts and year-end processes
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Build strong working relationships with budget holders and service managers, acting as a trusted financial advisor
  • Team Management and Development: Manage, coach and guide Management Accountants and other team members
  • Financial Governance: Promote strong financial governance, best practice and effective use of resources
  • Service Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, service delivery and value for money
  • Transformation Support: Support transformation programmes, service improvement initiatives and commercially minded decision making
  • Training and Guidance: Assist with the delivery of financial training to improve financial understanding across services

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Degree-level qualification, equivalent relevant professional qualifications or equivalent expertise
  • Qualified accountant or actively studying towards a recognised professional qualification such as CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
  • Strong financial management, budgeting, forecasting and reporting experience
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial and operational data
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and accounting software, with strong Excel capability
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly
  • Experience of supporting stakeholders, providing financial guidance and resolving complex issues
  • Ability to support and challenge services to improve decision making and service delivery
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, customer-focused services with respect, integrity and professionalism

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of supporting projects through to successful outcomes
  • Experience of developing and delivering policies, strategies or service improvement initiatives
  • Public sector finance experience
  • Experience of working in a matrix management environment
  • Experience of administering processes to tight timescales with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability to develop ideas and deliver effective strategies or projects
