Montu UK seeks a mid-level (around 5 years PQE) healthcare regulatory lawyer to join the in-house legal team. The successful candidate will provide specialist advice on UK medicines regulation, with particular focus on prescription-only medicines, digital health models, and regulatory frameworks relevant to medical cannabis and telehealth. The role directly supports Montu’s mission of trustworthy, compliant, and patient-centred cannabis therapies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure Montu’s operations, medicines supply, and telehealth services remain fully compliant with MHRA, CQC, GPhC, and relevant healthcare regulations, with a special focus on prescription cannabis medicines.
  • Advise senior leaders, clinical, and digital teams on all legal and regulatory issues arising from the provision of medical cannabis, digital prescribing, pharmacy practice standards, and novel healthcare delivery models.
  • Conduct and report on regulatory risk assessments for current and future products, especially where cannabis-based medicines or remote prescribing are involved.
  • Lead regulatory horizon scanning, monitoring developments in UK and (where relevant) EU medicines and pharmacy law to ensure proactive compliance and business readiness.
  • Liaise with regulators (MHRA, CQC, GPhC) in connection with authorisations, registrations, audits, and inspections, supporting Montu’s relationship management and incident responses.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements relevant to Montu’s ecosystem (e.g., supplier, clinical, technical, research, and digital health contracts), ensuring all regulatory obligations are met and reflected.
  • Design and deliver internal regulatory training to non-legal teams, fostering best practice, innovation, and regulatory compliance culture.
  • Support Montu’s industry leadership by contributing to policy engagement, thought leadership, and advocacy for evidence-based regulatory change in the medical cannabis field.
Minimum Qualifications
  • UK qualified solicitor or barrister with 4–6 years’ post‑qualification experience (PQE) in healthcare, life sciences, or medicines regulation (in‑house or private practice).
  • Experience of UK regulatory frameworks for prescription medicines, ideally including cannabis‑based products for medicinal use in humans (CBPMs), and their clinical and digital supply pathways.
  • Prior work with CQC and GPhC frameworks for remote clinical practice, online pharmacies, or digital health businesses.
  • Proven ability to provide practical, business‑focused legal advice in a fast‑paced, purpose‑driven environment.
Knowledge & Skills
  • In‑depth understanding of medicines regulation: including pharmacy supply chains, healthcare and medicines advertising, controlled drugs regulations, inspections and enforcement.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of UK healthcare and pharmacy regulatory entities and legal standards (MHRA, CQC, GPhC).
  • Ability to interpret clinical and digital healthcare regulatory risks and communicate clearly to non‑lawyer stakeholders.
  • Strong drafting, negotiating, and project management skills, particularly in clinical, digital, and pharmaceutical contract settings.
  • Commitment to patient safety, compliance, and Montu’s mission of accessible, innovative cannabis care.
  • Experience supporting medical cannabis or other specialist medicines businesses in the UK market.
  • Knowledge of patient consent, data protection, and privacy as they relate to digital health and medicine supply.
  • Involvement in policy or regulatory reform initiatives in the health tech or life sciences sector.
