There are two contacts available: one is a 15.5‑hour contract at Parkfield & Woodcross (Tuesday 1–6:30, Wednesday 2–6:30 & Friday 1–6:30) and the other is a 12‑hour contract at Grove & All Saints (Thursday & Friday 12:30–6:30).
Responsibilities- Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice.
- Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures, and make new and follow‑up appointments.
- Use judgment and communication skills to see patients with urgent consultation needs when no prior appointment exists, in a logical and non‑disruptive manner.
- Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensuring all procedures are completed.
- Process and distribute incoming and outgoing mail, both hard copy and electronic.
- Maintain telephone performance standards.
- Enter requests for home visits onto the computer for referral to the Duty Doctor, recording all relevant details.
- Process repeat prescription requests, ensuring they are ready for collection within 48 hours, either on the computer or manually.
- Action administrative responsibilities accurately and in a timely manner.
- Inform patients of relevant charges for private (non‑General Medical Services) services, accept payment and issue receipts for all payments.
- Perform computer data entry, data allocation and collation; process and record information in accordance with practice procedures.
- Provide clerical assistance to the practice as required, including word/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning.
- Keep the waiting room and reception area, notice‑boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter.
- Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners or Practice Manager.
- Any other delegated duties appropriate to this post.
- Experience of working as a receptionist.
- Experience of working in primary care.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
