New Producers offers an introduction to the craft of producing in a professional context by de‑mystifying the financial, administrative and organisational aspects of making cultural projects happen. The programme is delivered by Newhampton Arts Centre and China Plate, drawing on extensive experience and a pool of guest speakers from a range of art forms.

The course aims to nurture and develop those interested in making art happen – whether emerging producers, administrators, artists, creative practitioners or community champions. Participants will gain transferable, entrepreneurial skills to make their ideas a reality.

The New Producers programme consists of 10 in‑person sessions over 10 weeks at Newhampton Arts Centre. Each session covers:

• Articulating ideas in a compelling way
• Project planning and budgeting
• Income generation and fundraising
• Marketing and social media
• Business management
• Working inclusively and selling your work
• Evaluation

People of all ages and backgrounds who are living and/or working in the Black Country (Wolverhampton, Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall). Participants must be able to attend in‑person sessions  degree is required; some experience in the arts is preferred.

The course is free. Participants receive a bursary to cover their time in New Producers 2025.

As an arts centre in the Black Country, NAC aims to represent the local communities. By developing the next generation of arts producers, the programme enriches the local arts scene.

A producer brings art to life. They coordinate musicians, dancers, actors, visual artists, and more, managing budgets, promotion and audience engagement.

Accepted participants receive:

• Ten‑week training course covering essential areas such as developing event ideas, working with artists, budgeting and marketing.
• Mentoring placement with an experienced professional in your chosen field.
• Bursary to cover your time.
• Opportunity to create a piece of work as part of NAC’s winter programme 2025‑6, with a budget to support its development.

The programme welcomes passion and ideas across live music, club nights, theatre, dance, visual arts, poetry slams, literature, spoken word, comedy, and film screenings.

The course is delivered in‑person; virtual attendance is not available. All sessions are expected to be attended. Missing more than two sessions may result in loss of space to a waiting list applicant.

Final date to receive applications is midday on Friday 28th March 2025. Successful applicants will be notified by Monday 7th April 2025.
