About the UnitOur Acute Medical Unit (AMU) is a purpose‑built 49‑bed inpatient unit located within the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre. It manages an average of 50 medical admissions per day and offers a diverse caseload across general and acute medical specialties.
- 1‑2 substantive consultant acute physicians providing 7‑day cover
- Newly established Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit located within the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, offering opportunities for further development
- Foundation Year doctors (FY1–FY2)
- Resident doctors from various training cohorts
- Acute Internal Medicine higher specialty trainees
- Clinical Fellows
- Physician Associates
Our structured rota ensures exposure to clerking and procedural work, ambulatory assessment and outpatient management, and ongoing inpatient care. We also benefit from daily in‑reach support from renal medicine, cardiology, respiratory and gastroenterology.
