Teaching Assistant (Positive Male Role Model Desirable)

Location: Wolverhampton

Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Full-time, long-term

GSL Education is seeking a calm, proactive, and engaging SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with complex needs in a Wolverhampton school. The ideal candidate will provide stability, encouragement, and consistent support while acting as a positive male role model for a child who requires structured, compassionate guidance.

The pupil presents with a range of SEN needs, including :

  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs
  • ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)
  • ADHD
  • LAC (Looked After Child) status
  • History of placement in a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit)
  • Displays challenging behaviour and requires confident, nurturing support
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver 1 : 1 support throughout the school day for a pupil with complex SEN needs
  • Use a calm, patient, and trauma-informed approach at all times
  • Support behaviour regulation using approved strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • Build a trusting rapport to encourage engagement and participation
  • Assist with adapting learning to meet the pupil’s individual needs
  • Encourage positive behaviour, social interaction, and independence
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, pastoral teams, and external agencies
  • Maintain accurate notes on progress, behaviour, and safeguarding concerns
  • Provide structured support during transitions, breaks, and challenging moments
  • Be proactive in spotting potential triggers and implementing preventative strategies
Ideal Candidate
  • Experience with in SEN , PRU, SEMH, or alternative education environments
  • Confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and physical strength
  • Calm, engaging, proactive, and able to remain resilient under pressure
  • Training in Team-Teach, MAPA, or similar behaviour management (desirable)
  • Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and improving outcomes
  • Strong commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries
Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS Child and Adult Check – Must be on the update service. (We can assist you with a DBS if you do not have one)
  • 2x References are a must in order to clear your file with GSL.
  • Teaching Assistant – Level 2 Qualification or similar.
