Overview

SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant

Start building real SEN expertise in a school that does inclusion well.

Use your steady, empathetic approach to help pupils with Autism and ADHD learn comfortably and make progress that sticks.

Role details
:

  • Immediate start until July 2026
  • £81 - £101 per day
  • ‘Outstanding’ primary school, Wolverhampton
  • 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism and ADHD
Your impact

Work closely with the SENCo and class teachers to deliver tailored support. You’ll break learning into clear steps, use visual schedules and predictable routines, and coach regulation and social-communication skills. Expect a blend of 1:1 work and small-group sessions in core literacy/numeracy, plus quick progress check-ins so next actions are obvious to staff and families.

About you

Calm, reliable and clear in your communication. You follow support plans, keep boundaries consistent, and build trust without over-prompting. You’re reflective, organised, and keen to turn feedback into practical changes the next day.

Requirements
  • Degree – 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in SEN, behaviour and pupil wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential
    .
The School

This ‘Outstanding’ Wolverhampton primary is two-form entry with calm, well-ordered classrooms and a clear behaviour framework that prioritises consistency and kindness. Inclusion is embedded: the SEN team runs plan–do–review cycles, offers ready-made visual resources, and provides access to regulation spaces when pupils need a reset. Reading is a whole-school focus (robust phonics lower down; guided reading and vocabulary in KS2) and maths is taught in small, sequenced steps with frequent retrieval.

New staff receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD, and short coaching drop-ins that give precise, usable next moves—ideal conditions to develop quickly and evidence impact.

How to Apply

Send your CV with your availability and DBS status (add two referees if you can). Shortlisted candidates will have a brief phone screen followed by an in-school interview/observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
