EYFS Learning Support Assistant

Are you looking to build meaningful early years’ experience before moving into teaching, SEN, or educational psychology? Could you provide calm, consistent 1:1 support for a non‑verbal pupil with autism in a nurturing EYFS setting?

  • EYFS Learning Support Assistant
  • September 2026 – July 2027
  • £90 - £110 per day
  • ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
  • 1:1 SEN support for a non‑verbal pupil with autism
The Role

Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a non‑verbal pupil with autism within EYFS. You will help the pupil access learning, follow routines, develop communication, and feel secure in the classroom. You will also adapt activities, support engagement through play‑based learning, and work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to give clear feedback on progress. EYFS practice is built around communication, language, personal development and learning through play, while SEN support staff commonly help pupils access learning and follow individual routines.

The

Candidate

You are patient, observant, and able to build trust through routine, consistency, and clear communication. You do not need to be loud or flashy, just reliable and genuinely committed to supporting a young child with additional needs. This role would suit someone who wants hands‑on SEN experience in a primary school and is interested in child development, autism, or early intervention.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience such as EYFS support, SEN support, nursery work, tutoring, mentoring or volunteering is desirable but not essential.
The School

This ‘Good’ primary school in Wolverhampton offers a supportive environment, clear routines, and a strong focus on inclusion. Staff work closely together to support pupils with additional needs, and the early years team understands the importance of communication, structure, and consistency. The EYFS framework applies to all children, including those with SEND, and autism guidance for schools stresses supportive, structured environments and strategies that reduce barriers to inclusion.
