About

The Role

The SEND Officer will play a key role in coordinating and supporting SEND provision within our Alternative Provision setting in Wolverhampton. This is a student focused and highly organised role, supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including learners with SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD and other barriers to learning. You will work closely with students, staff, parents and carers, local authority teams and external professionals to help ensure support is appropriate, well documented and effective.

The role will support the identification of learner needs, EHCP processes, individual support planning, progress monitoring and multi agency working. You will also help ensure provision remains compliant with internal policies, safeguarding expectations and the SEND Code of Practice.

This role would suit someone who is confident working with vulnerable learners, understands the importance of accurate case management, and can balance empathy with structure, accountability and professional judgement.

What You'll Be Doing SEND Provision and Learner Support
  • Support the identification, assessment and review of students with SEND across the provision
  • Coordinate and contribute to support plans, intervention planning and learner reviews
  • Work with teaching and support staff to ensure individual learner needs are understood and responded to effectively
  • Support strategies for learners with SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD and other additional needs
  • Help reduce barriers to learning, attendance, engagement and positive behaviour
  • Support reintegration plans, transition arrangements and progression pathways for learners
EHCP, Reviews and Case Management
  • Coordinate and contribute to EHCP processes, including annual reviews and associated documentation
  • Maintain accurate and up to date SEND records, reports and learner files
  • Track learner progress, interventions and provision to ensure support remains relevant and effective
  • Prepare reports and evidence to support reviews, funding processes and quality assurance activity
  • Ensure key actions from meetings, reviews and support plans are followed through
Multi Agency Working
  • Act as a key point of contact for parents and carers, local authority teams and external professionals
  • Attend and contribute to multi agency meetings, learner reviews and case discussions
  • Build positive, professional relationships with families and external partners
  • Support joined up communication between staff, learners, families and external agencies
  • Escalate concerns appropriately and ensure safeguarding processes are followed where required
Inclusion, Engagement and Compliance
  • Promote inclusive practice across the Alternative Provision setting
  • Support staff with practical strategies to improve learner engagement, behaviour and access to learning
  • Contribute to the development and review of Individual Learning Plans and support strategies
  • Support compliance with the SEND Code of Practice, safeguarding requirements and internal policies
  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality, record keeping and professional conduct
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of SEND processes, systems and learner support practice
